Chapter 4 - The Sound of Silence

Charlotte slowly raised her eyes toward him. Her composure became even more unsettling. She didn't scream. She didn't cry. She just stared at him with the cold, calculated precision of a predator observing its trapped prey.
She held the phone deliberately against the cream ownership documents, withholding the disturbing financial discovery that could expose an even greater betrayal.
"Your mother, Brandon," Charlotte said, her voice echoing softly in the warm Miami breeze. "How is she feeling these days? Is the chemotherapy working?"
Brandon flinched. The color drained completely from his face. "She's... she's hanging in there. Why are you asking about my mother right now?"
Brooke shifted uncomfortably in her sparkling crimson-red gown, adjusting the baby in the pink cap. "Brandon, tell her to leave. This is our special day."
"I asked," Charlotte continued, taking a slow, measured step up the red-carpeted stairs, forcing Brandon to step backward, "because my accounting department just flagged a routing irregularity for the eight thousand dollars I sent her this morning."
Brandon swallowed hard. He looked around at the elite guests, who were now leaning in, desperate to hear the drama. "Charlotte, please. Not here. We can talk about the medical bills later."
"There are no medical bills, are there, Brandon?" Charlotte said. It wasn't a question. It was an execution.
"What are you talking about?" Brooke interjected, trying to sound confident, but her voice wavered.
Charlotte turned her sharp, confident gaze toward the blonde mistress. "Crimson Horizon LLC. Does that ring a bell, Brooke? Because according to my bank, that's where my money has been going for the last thirty-six months. Over two hundred and eighty thousand dollars."
