Chapter 4 - The Traitor's Signal

Vincent leaned over the table, staring down into the porcelain bowl. Because of his deafness, he couldn't hear the faint, high-pitched static emitting from the tiny black device.

But I could.

The cinematic realization hit me with the kinetic force of a freight train.

Whoever planted that device inside his ear canal wasn't just tracking his location. They had been listening to every single conversation, every meeting, and every business deal the mafia boss had conducted for years. And the device was deeply infected, causing the agonizing swelling and bleeding that was slowly destroying his brain.

Vincent’s dark eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated horror as he recognized the blinking red light.

He frantically grabbed his phone and typed: Who put this in me?

Before I could even process the question, a massive, deafening explosion rocked the entire estate.

The heavy front doors of the mansion were blown completely off their hinges. The crystal chandeliers violently shook, plunging the dining room into darkness as the power grid was cleanly severed.

We had removed the tracker. The traitor listening on the other end knew their surveillance feed was dead. They had initiated a full-scale assault.

"Get down!" I screamed, even though I knew he couldn't hear me.

I violently shoved Vincent to the floor just as a hail of high-caliber bullets shredded through the dining room windows. Glass rained down on us like daggers.

Vincent didn't freeze. The agonizing pain in his head seemed to instantly evaporate, violently replaced by the terrifying, lethal instincts of an apex predator. He pulled a heavy handgun from his shoulder holster and grabbed my hand.

👉 We crawled through the shattered glass, but the voice echoing from the hallway belonged to the last person I ever expected.
