Chapter 7 - The Final Escape

"No! Please!" Vincent shrieked like a feral coward, thrashing and kicking wildly as two massive federal agents violently grabbed his expensive black tuxedo, slamming him against a marble pillar to cuff him.

Serena tried to run, but the agents grabbed her too, arresting the rogue informant for conspiracy.

Maryanne stood perfectly still in her heavy silver beaded gown. She didn't cry. The heartbroken, submissive wife completely vanished.

She watched the man who had utterly betrayed her get violently hauled away in steel handcuffs. His desperate, pathetic cries faded into the distance, ending his reign of toxic greed, infidelity, and arrogance forever. He was going to face life in a federal penitentiary.

Marcus walked slowly across the marble floor. He didn't look like an assassin anymore. He looked like a deeply protective, fiercely loving older brother.

He gently wrapped his arm around Maryanne's shoulders.

"It's over, Maryanne," Marcus whispered softly. "You're safe."

Maryanne took a slow, deep breath, the massive, suffocating weight of her toxic marriage completely lifting from her shoulders. She leaned against her brother, feeling absolute, undeniable peace for the first time in a decade.

In the months that followed, Vincent and Serena were sentenced to federal prison. Maryanne finalized a ruthless divorce, seizing the remainder of the legitimate assets and completely rebuilding her life.
