Chapter 4 - The House of Lies

The black SUV pulled through the massive wrought-iron gates of Vincent’s sprawling, luxury estate—the exact same home Clara had been violently exiled from six months ago.
The vehicle parked outside the grand entrance. Vincent didn't wait for his guards. He aggressively pushed his door open, walked around the car, and gently helped Clara step out, his hand firmly supporting her waist.
As the heavy oak front doors swung open, the grand foyer was illuminated by a massive crystal chandelier.
Standing at the top of the marble staircase, wearing a stunning, blood-red silk evening gown, was Isabella. She was the daughter of a rival syndicate boss, a woman Vincent had agreed to marry strictly as a strategic alliance after Clara’s mysterious disappearance.
Isabella held a crystal glass of expensive champagne, a smug, elegant smile resting on her flawless face.
But as she looked down and saw Vincent walking through the doors with his arm around Clara’s heavily pregnant waist, Isabella’s smile completely vanished.
The crystal glass slipped from her manicured fingers. It crashed against the marble stairs, shattering into a hundred pieces.
"Vincent?!" Isabella gasped, her face turning the color of wet chalk. "What... what is she doing here?!"
Vincent didn't look at his fiancée with love. He looked at her like a predator studying trapped prey. He slowly guided Clara into the center of the foyer, completely ignoring the shattered glass.
