Chapter 6 - The Digital Alibi

The grand foyer was dead silent.

Vincent stared at Clara, the horrific weight of her trauma finally making sense. She genuinely believed the man she loved had ordered the execution of their unborn child.

Isabella began to hyperventilate. "She's making it up! There was no recording!"

Vincent completely ignored Isabella. He reached into his tailored black suit jacket and pulled out his encrypted smartphone. He dialed a single number.

"Marcus," Vincent spoke into the phone, addressing his chief of cybersecurity. "Pull up the server logs from my home office dictation machine. Specifically from six months ago, the week before Clara left. Find the audio file where I used the phrase 'get rid of it.'"

Isabella lunged forward, desperately trying to grab Vincent’s arm. "Vincent, please! Don't do this!"

Vincent effortlessly swatted her hand away without even looking at her.

Ten seconds later, Marcus spoke through the phone's speaker, his voice echoing in the foyer.

"I have the raw file, Boss," Marcus confirmed. "It was recorded after we found out one of the kitchen staff was stealing from the vault."

"Play the full sentence, Marcus," Vincent ordered coldly.

The audio played loudly over the speaker. It was Vincent’s unmistakable, ruthless voice.

"The new chef is a rat. Get rid of him. I don't want that mistake in my house. Handle it quietly before the end of the week."

Clara gasped, covering her mouth with both hands.

Isabella had maliciously spliced the audio. She had cut out the words 'the new chef' and 'him,' editing the sentence to make it sound exactly like Vincent was ordering a hit on his own baby.
