Chapter 5 - The Snake's Defense

Isabella frantically gripped the mahogany banister, her heart hammering against her ribs. She rushed down the stairs, her red silk gown sweeping across the marble, desperately trying to control the narrative.

"Vincent, you can't listen to her!" Isabella shrieked, completely dropping her sophisticated high-society facade. "She’s a liar! She ran away with one of your low-level enforcers! That baby isn't even yours! She’s just back because she wants your money!"

Clara flinched, instinctively stepping behind Vincent's broad shoulders for protection.

"I never touched another man," Clara whispered, her voice trembling but resolute. "I ran because you came into my bedroom while Vincent was in Chicago. You cornered me."

"Shut up!" Isabella screamed, pointing a manicured finger at Clara. "Vincent, throw this trash out right now! She is disrespecting me in my own home!"

Vincent didn't move. He stood perfectly still, his cinematic, ruthless composure completely intact.

"Let her speak, Isabella," Vincent commanded, the sheer, undeniable authority in his voice silencing the furious woman instantly.

Clara took a deep breath, resting her hands on her swollen belly.

"She came into my room," Clara continued, locking eyes with Vincent. "She threw a forged medical document on the bed. It was a scheduled appointment at an underground clinic. She told me you had found out about the pregnancy. And then... she played an audio recording on her phone."

Vincent’s jaw tightened. "What did the recording say?"
