The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing betrayal completely paralyzed Jason.
He didn't run over to hug Maya. If he approached her now, in front of the entire school, he knew she would be humiliated. And more importantly, if his ex-wife found out he had made contact, she would completely vanish again, hiding Maya behind another wall of expensive, aggressive lawyers.
Jason needed undeniable proof. He needed to execute a flawlessly calculated, entirely legal slaughter.
He walked out of the high school and immediately climbed into his rental car. He didn't drive to his corporate meeting. He drove directly to the massive, sprawling suburban address listed on Sarah’s child support documents.
Jason parked down the street, completely hiding his car behind a row of tall hedges.
What he saw made his blood run absolutely ice cold.
Sarah, his ex-wife, was standing in the driveway of a breathtaking, million-dollar luxury home. She was wearing a stunning, expensive designer dress and flashing a massive diamond necklace. She was laughing loudly, kissing her new husband, a slick, arrogant man named David, who was polishing a brand-new, six-figure luxury sports car.
They weren't struggling. They were living like absolute royalty.
"You greedy, toxic parasite," Jason whispered fiercely inside his car, his knuckles turning completely white as he gripped the steering wheel.
To understand the sheer, unhinged delusion of Sarah’s behavior, one had to look at the massive, highly orchestrated lie she had told the court. Sarah had claimed Jason was an absentee father who refused to pay for Maya's basic needs. She had demanded an exorbitant amount of child support, claiming she needed it for Maya's private tutoring, elite medical care, and private school tuition.
But Maya wasn't in a private school. She was starving in a public cafeteria.
