Chapter 4 - The Hunt for the Truth

The name hit Alexander like a physical blow to the chest.

Julian. His Chief Financial Officer. His oldest friend, the man who had been his college roommate, his best man at his first wedding, his most trusted confidant. Julian and Celeste had been plotting to assassinate him and take the global empire.

Alexander stood up, towering over the dying woman. He finally snapped his fingers.

His head of security, Marcus, materialized from the shadows instantly.

"Call our private medical team," Alexander ordered coldly, buttoning his suit jacket. "Pump her stomach. Keep her alive. But do not call the police yet. If the media gets wind of this, Julian will run."

"Understood, sir," Marcus said, his eyes widening as he looked at Celeste convulsing on the table. "Where are you going?"

"To find the girl," Alexander said, his voice laced with a desperate urgency.

He sprinted out of the alcove, ignoring the shocked gasps of the wealthy patrons in the main dining room. He pushed through the heavy kitchen doors, startling the silver-haired chef, and burst out into the freezing, rain-soaked alley behind the skyscraper.

The alley was dark, lined with massive dumpsters and steam vents.

"Hey!" Alexander shouted into the darkness, the freezing rain soaking his expensive Italian suit. "Where are you?!"

Silence.

He walked deeper into the shadows. "You saved my life! Please, I won't hurt you! I need to talk to you!"

From behind a rusted dumpster, a tiny, shivering figure slowly stepped out. It was the twelve-year-old girl in the oversized blue hoodie. She was soaking wet, her lips blue from the cold, staring at the billionaire with wide, terrified eyes.
