Chapter 9 - Ellie Thought the Man Was Someone Nana Wanted Her to Love
Talking to a four-year-old after something frightening requires care.
No interrogation.
No repeatedly asking the same question.
A child specialist helped.
Ellie remembered the important part.
Before Bruno lunged over her, Raymond had whispered from beneath the deck:
“Ellie.”
She stopped.
He said:
“I’m your grandpa.”
She had never seen him.
Then:
“Nana says you’re allowed to know me.”
That sentence confused her enough to move closer.
Not because she trusted Raymond.
Because she trusted Linda.
Then his hand came out.
Bruno moved.
The dog hit the grass between them before Raymond could touch her.
Ellie told the specialist:
“Bruno said no.”
That description stayed with me.
Bruno did not understand court orders.
Estrangement.
Family history.
Manipulation.
He understood something simpler.
A hidden stranger was reaching for his little girl.
