Chapter 13 - Walter Changed The Foundation Instead Of Protecting His Pride

Walter could have buried everything.

Quiet repayment.

Private resignation.

Family silence.

He didn’t.

The board commissioned an independent review.

Vivienne resigned.

Northbridge’s contract ended.

Unsupported amounts were repaid through a negotiated settlement.

Conflict-of-interest rules were rewritten.

All related-party contracts required independent approval.

Walter also added an outside compliance officer.

No family member could manage both documentation and approval.

It embarrassed him.

He admitted that.

“I built something with too much trust and not enough structure.”

That sentence mattered.

Families often treat formal controls as insulting.

We trust each other.

That sounds beautiful.

Until trust becomes a substitute for accountability.
