Chapter 9 - The Printer Marks Connected The Letters To Vivienne
The letters looked handwritten.
They weren’t entirely.
Each message had been printed in a handwriting-style font, then small words and corrections added with pen.
That made comparison easier.
A forensic document examiner found that several pages had microscopic printer patterns consistent with a color laser printer.
The foundation office had that model.
So did thousands of other offices.
Not enough.
Then IT reviewed print logs.
Seven small documents had been printed from Vivienne’s foundation laptop on dates matching the letters.
File names had been deleted.
But spool records remained.
Still not perfect proof of content.
Then handwriting analysis compared the pen additions.
Strong consistency with Vivienne’s writing.
Finally came something simpler.
A hallway camera at Walter’s mansion showed Vivienne entering the guest room hallway carrying Lila’s red suitcase on the afternoon one letter appeared.
She had told everyone she never entered that wing.
The pieces came together.
No single magical clue.
Pattern.
Technology.
Access.
Language.
Behavior.
