Chapter 11 - Marco Tried to Say Victor Had Framed Him
Marco’s defense changed several times.
First:
He had never seen the envelope.
The auction footage destroyed that.
Then:
He wanted it because Victor had told him it contained confidential family information.
No record supported that.
Then:
Victor fabricated the entire antique-substitution story because the two men had fallen out professionally.
That claim survived longer.
Victor was dead.
Dead men cannot answer accusations.
But the envelope did not depend only on Victor’s handwriting.
There were independent shipping records.
Bank transfers.
Restoration photographs.
Customs documents.
Scientific analysis of the replica.
A former restoration technician eventually confirmed Marco had paid cash for a near-perfect copy of the Falconer under the pretense that it was needed for “museum educational display.”
One piece of evidence could be challenged.
Together they formed a chain.
The irony was that Marco’s behavior at the auction had become part of that chain too.
He had physically attacked me in front of cameras because I reached the envelope first.
