Chapter 5 - Marco Had Tried to Buy the Clock Before the Auction

The auction director found another clue.

Three weeks before the sale, a private buyer contacted the owner and offered to purchase the clock before it reached public bidding.

The owner refused.

The buyer raised the offer.

Refused again.

Then a representative asked whether the clock could be privately inspected “for conservation purposes.”

That request was also denied.

The representative’s company was registered to an address connected to Marco’s attorney.

He had been trying to reach the clock before auction day.

When that failed, he registered to attend the event himself.

Now his panic made sense.

For twelve years, the envelope had remained trapped inside an antique moving from collector to collector.

Marco knew it existed.

But apparently he never managed to retrieve it.

Until the clock returned to America.

And then Camilla shattered the base in front of hundreds of witnesses.

The secret literally fell onto the floor.
