Chapter 4 - THE MONEY IN MY NAME

Victor had been using my identity to move millions long before he tried to move me out of the property.

The ledger showed $3.6 million in consulting distributions issued to “E. Hale Advisory” over five years.

I had never owned a company called E. Hale Advisory.

The entity existed.

Delaware LLC.

Registered agent.

Beneficial owner hidden.

Bank account.

Payments from Hale Maritime.

Then onward transfers to Victor-controlled investment accounts.

My name used as cover.

Why?

Tax allocation.

Family income balancing.

And perhaps something worse.

My accountant reviewed joint returns.

Some payments had been reported as my income.

I paid taxes on money I never controlled.

That meant Victor had been using my identity financially for years.

I confronted him through lawyers.

He said:

“Those were family distributions.”

“Why didn’t I receive them?”

“They paid family expenses.”

Which?

Yacht.

Security.

Marina.

Mara’s tuition.

Investments.

Everything blended.

Again.

Family as permission.

Then E. Hale Advisory documents.

Signature pages.

Some signatures mine.

From years earlier.

Copied onto later resolutions.

Digital.

Same pattern as countless cases, but personal.

Then one document:

Authorization for extraordinary hazard mitigation.

Signed “Evelyn Hale.”

Dated two days before guesthouse fire.

It approved “removal of obsolete structures.”

Not arson.

Demolition planning.

But my signature copied.

Victor used it to show redevelopment investor I had agreed to remove guesthouse.

Then the fire conveniently removed it.

Motive became stronger.

Then one insurance email.

Victor to broker:

If structure is total loss, does demolition consent still matter?

Sent six days before fire.

Broker:

No. Claim resolution supersedes.

There.

Not proof he caused fire.

But ugly.

Then Nolan’s statement.

He saw Victor’s SUV.

Then what?

Victor entered guesthouse service path with two fuel cans.

Nolan assumed marina use.

At 11:57, Victor left.

At 11:58 alarm.

Nolan went toward fire.

Victor stopped him and said:

“Call it in from main house.”

Why?

Unknown.

Nolan obeyed.

Then later, Victor told him to wipe cameras.

Paid him.

That was close enough for arrest?

Detective Torres took evidence to prosecutor.

Still wanted physical corroboration.

Then gas can residue.

One recovered from marina storage had Victor’s fingerprints? Could be normal.

Another can missing.

Then Mara.

She had seen can inside guesthouse.

If Victor carried two toward path and one remained inside, significant.

Then Victor’s alibi.

He claimed he was in wine cellar with friends.

Guests uncertain.

One remembered him leaving for ten minutes.

Enough.

Then anonymous sender.

New text:

THE PERSON WHO GAVE YOU THE REMOTE WAS INSIDE THE HOUSE WHEN MARA KICKED YOU.

I looked at the party? Actually living room scene had only Mara and Victor, maybe staff? Prompt characters only three. Could be household staff unseen. We can introduce house manager? But prompt says same chars? For story can add. User expects long story. Fine.

Inside house that day:

Victor.

Mara.

Me.

House manager, Teresa Nolan? Need white Americans? Story not constrained. But keep US.

House manager:

Lydia Price.

Fifty-six.

Worked for family eighteen years.

She had been in kitchen during humiliation.

Did not intervene.

Then disappeared after yacht explosion.

Why?

She was anonymous sender.

Police found her at a motel.

She confessed.

She stole remote from marina office.

Placed it beside me by asking Mara to toss it? Wait Mara threw remote according to prompt. How would Lydia ensure? She gave it to Mara earlier saying it controlled media screen? Let's make clever.

The black remote had been on side table.

Mara grabbed and threw it at me because she thought it was the television remote.

Lydia had swapped it that morning.

So Lydia orchestrated access.

Why?

Because she saw Victor bring gas cans to guesthouse.

Why not police?

She was afraid.

Then why yacht explosion?

She believed the yacht contained ledger copies Victor planned to destroy.

She wanted to force investigators.

But exploding yacht could kill.

She checked no one aboard.

Still reckless.

Then she mailed me photo.

Sent texts.

Why not identify?

Fear of Victor.

Then she said:

“I thought you were the only person he couldn’t completely control anymore.”

That was not true.

I had just returned from hospital.

Vulnerable.

But maybe she saw something.

Then Lydia admitted she also knew of E. Hale Advisory because she handled household mail.

She had seen bank statements.

She kept copies.

Now physical corroboration.

Then guesthouse fire.

Lydia saw Victor return smelling of gasoline.

No direct eyewitness to ignition.

But enough pattern.

Then prosecutors arrested Victor on financial fraud and obstruction first.

Arson investigation continued.

That frustrated me.

I wanted fire named.

Evidence decides pace.

Then Mara.

Her world collapsed.

She had kicked me.

Humiliated me.

Believed Victor.

Now she learned he used my identity and maybe tried to kill me.

She apologized.

Too broad.

I said:

“Specific.”

Then she began.

“For the food.”

Good.

“For kicking you.”

Good.

“For crushing you while you were injured because I wanted Dad’s approval.”

That one.

Then:

“For lying about the guesthouse.”

Good.

Then:

“For believing he replaced you because you became inconvenient.”

There.

I cried.

She did too.

No instant forgiveness.

Then Victor from jail sent message:

Mara is manipulating you now.

Even there.

Trying to keep us separated.

I stopped reading.

The accountant found that some E. Hale Advisory expenses were legitimate household costs and some were not. We separated them transaction by transaction.

Again, precision mattered.

If Victor used my name to pay Mara’s tuition from family income, that was different from routing marina investment profits into accounts I could not access.

Both required explanation.

Only one was clearly deceptive enrichment.

I refused to let anger flatten every dollar into theft.
