Chapter 11 - Julian Had Helped The Lie Even After Learning Enough To Stop It
Julian’s role was not criminal in the same way.
But morally, he had failed.
Badly.
He knew Vanessa claimed a miscarriage.
He knew she continued wearing a fake belly afterward.
He knew family donors still believed a baby was coming.
He knew Cesare was considering financial changes because of that belief.
And he stayed silent.
Why?
Shame.
Fear of scandal.
Marriage.

Julian kept saying:
“I thought I could fix it privately.”
Cesare answered:
“You cannot privately fix a public lie while still benefiting from it.”
Julian had also allowed Vanessa’s treatment of Avice to worsen.
Not because he hated his daughter.
Because he kept choosing the path that created the least immediate conflict.
Vanessa complains about Avice?
Move Avice.
Diane criticizes her?
Stay quiet.
Avice says something strange?
Call it imagination.
That pattern eventually became cruelty through passivity.
When Avice told Cesare:
“Dad says I make Vanessa sad because I’m from before,”
