Vanessa’s lie became financially significant three months after the pregnancy announcement.
Julian proposed a change to the Hale legacy trust.
He said it was about fairness.
The existing structure provided separate protected shares for direct descendants after birth.
Avice already had one.
Julian wanted a new clause allowing “anticipated descendants” to influence near-term planning before birth so the family could reserve funds for medical care, housing, and education.
On the surface, harmless.
Then Cesare’s attorney compared drafts.
One version contained language granting Julian and Vanessa temporary discretionary control over a new family support account after the baby reached viability.
That account could hold several million dollars.
Cesare never signed the amendment.
He had questions.
Vanessa became increasingly impatient.
Ethan contacted the family office twice asking when the amendment would be approved.
Diane pressured Cesare socially.
“Do you want your unborn grandchild treated like an afterthought?”
Now the motive sharpened.
The pregnancy was leverage.
Not for immediate theft.
For access.
For control.
For a new financial structure built around a child who did not exist.
And because Avice already had protected status as Julian’s real daughter, pushing her emotionally aside made the imaginary child appear more urgent.
