Chapter 18 - THE AIRPORT VIDEO

Years later, a bystander video from the airport surfaced online again. Not full.

The handbag strike. Julian’s “not one damn cent.”

My “let’s go see your mother.” People loved it.

Comments invented everything. They said Margaret had died.

False. They said I secretly owned the company.

False. They said baby belonged to someone else.

False. They said I took all Julian’s inheritance.

False. Internet prefers clean revenge.

I wrote nothing. Then one media outlet asked for interview. I declined. Why?

Because story no longer belonged to public curiosity. Then Grace? Did I and Daniel have child? We haven't. Could introduce maybe not necessary.

Daniel and I had a daughter two years after marriage. Her name was Lucy Brooks.

No relation to Vances. When she was old enough, she saw airport clip accidentally.

“Mom, did you hit that man?” “Yes.”

“Why?” “I was angry.”

“Was that okay?” “No.”

Good. Then: “Did he say something mean?”

“Yes.” “Was that okay?”

“No.” Children force clarity.

Then: “Did you say sorry?” “Yes.” “Did he?” “Yes.”

That was enough. I did not tell her I was heroic.

Because I was not. I was hurt.

I acted. Then corrected.

That mattered. Then Lucy asked: “Why did he say see your mother?”

I laughed. Long story.

Someday. Then I realized family stories can be told without protecting adults from accountability and without drowning children in details.

That was something Vances never learned until late.
