Chapter 11 - Veronica Called the Loan a Test of Loyalty
Veronica never apologized during the first months.
She justified.
The spray?
“A loss of temper.”
The financial pressure?
“Normal family planning.”
The loan?
“A test of whether Amelia understood marriage.”
That phrase became almost laughable.
A test of loyalty.
Amelia asked through attorneys:
“If I had signed, when would Preston have told me his debts were already past due?”
No answer.
“If the loan failed, who lost the townhouse?”
No answer.
“If marriage means transparency, why hide the purpose?”
Still no answer.
Eventually Veronica said:
“Because Amelia would have said no.”
Exactly.
That was the entire case in one sentence.
They concealed information because informed consent would produce refusal.
Then they treated refusal as betrayal.
That is not agreement.
