Chapter 11 - Ryan Chose Emma Publicly
The quiet, private confrontation inside the suite had been one thing.
What mattered next was what Ryan did when choosing Emma would cost him something publicly.
He did not disappoint.
He moved Emma and Lily out of the family suite and into a private residence on the far end of the property where Diane had no access.
He changed security permissions personally.
He notified staff in writing that Diane was not to enter any area where Emma or Lily were staying unless expressly invited by Ryan—which never happened.
He informed family counsel that any document Diane had attempted to place before Emma regarding guardianship or domestic authority was invalid and potentially coercive.
Then he did the hardest thing.
He addressed the broader family.
At a closed family meeting, Ryan said plainly that his mother had abused his wife and granddaughter’s mother during a vulnerable recovery period. He did not soften the language. Did not call it conflict. Did not hide behind phrases like “tension” or “misunderstanding.”
A few relatives were appalled.
A few were skeptical.
Then the clips were shown.
By the time the meeting ended, nobody was defending Diane out loud.
Emma learned about that meeting later and cried again—this time not from humiliation, but relief.
For months Diane had told her the same lie in different forms:

He’ll never choose you over me.
Now Ryan had answered that lie in front of everyone who mattered.
