Chapter 14 - The Last Time Diane Saw The Device

Months later, Diane returned to the resort only once, under strict conditions, to collect personal things from her former private apartment on the property.
Ryan arranged the access through attorneys.
No direct contact.
No wandering through family areas.
No attempt to see Emma or Lily.
As she passed the old suite hallway, she paused.
Inside, visible through the partly open door, the same large potted plant still stood near the wall.
The hidden device was no longer inside it. Ryan had removed it long ago.
But Diane kept staring as if she could still see that tiny blinking light.
The plant had become something larger in her mind.
Not a camera.
A moment.
The exact second she realized her control was over.
She looked thinner then. Older. More brittle. Not frail—just diminished.
Some people are destroyed by public scandal.
Diane had been undone by private truth.
She had believed cruelty stayed powerful as long as it stayed hidden.
She was wrong.
Truth did not arrive as police sirens or dramatic confessions.
It arrived as a son opening a door with a travel bag in his hand and finally seeing what was right in front of him.
Ryan happened to be standing at the far end of the corridor when Diane paused by the suite.

Their eyes met.
She looked away first.
