Chapter 10 - The Vow of Protection

Luca didn't flinch as the three broken hitmen writhed in agony on his lobby floor. He slowly walked over to Silas, who was clutching his shattered wrist, staring up at the boss in absolute, unfiltered terror.
Luca crouch down smoothly, his dark eyes entirely devoid of mercy. He leaned in close, his voice a low, terrifying whisper.
"You tell my uncle Vincent that his little coup failed," Luca stated, every word dripping with lethal finality. "Tell him I am going to tear his operation apart piece by piece. And tell him if he ever looks in Clara’s direction again, I will personally burn his entire empire to the ground with him inside it."
Silas nodded frantically, completely broken and desperate to survive.
Luca stood up, turning his back on the trash. He walked over to where Clara was kneeling on the floor. The cold, dangerous aura surrounding him instantly softened. He looked down at the beautiful, barefoot woman in the red silk gown who had just risked her entire life to save his.
He didn't say a word. He slowly reached out, gently grasping her arms, and pulled her to her feet. Clara was trembling violently, her eyes wide as she looked up into his handsome, rugged face.
Luca reached into his pocket and pulled out the delicate silver high heels she had abandoned in his penthouse. He placed them gently on the floor in front of her. Then, he unbuttoned his custom suit jacket—brought down by Marcus just moments prior—and draped it warmly over her bare, shivering shoulders.

"You don't have to run anymore," Luca whispered softly, his dark eyes locking onto hers with a fierce, unbreakable promise of protection. "I've got you."
If you were Clara, would you have risked your life to warn the mafia boss, or would you have just taken the money and disappeared into the night?
