Chapter 7 - The Wolves in the Lobby

The massive, polished steel doors of the private VIP elevator slid open on the ground floor with a soft, melodic ding.
Clara stood completely frozen inside the elevator car, clutching her crimson red silk gown tightly against her shivering body. She was barefoot, completely defenseless, and completely terrified. She took a slow, trembling breath and peeked her head out.
The grand lobby of the luxury high-rise was usually bustling with elite residents, security guards, and valet attendants. But tonight, it was a total, terrifying ghost town. The lights had been dimmed to an eerie, low setting. The security desk was completely abandoned, the monitors showing nothing but black static.
Clara’s heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. She took a tentative step out onto the cold, polished granite floor. The silence was deafening. She just needed to make it to the revolving glass doors. Just fifty feet to the street. Fifty feet to flag down a taxi and disappear forever.
She took three quick steps forward.
Suddenly, the heavy shadows near the massive marble pillars shifted.
"Going somewhere in a hurry, sweetheart?" a raspy, cruel voice echoed through the massive lobby.
Clara gasped, stumbling backward as three massive men in dark trench coats stepped out into the dim light, completely blocking her path to the exit. They moved with terrifying, synchronized precision. The man in the center, a scarred, ruthless enforcer known as Silas, slowly unbuttoned his coat, casually revealing the heavy, suppressed pistol holstered at his waist.
