Chapter 6 - The Intercept

"Boss," Marcus answered immediately. His voice was crisp and professional, accustomed to late-night emergency calls from the king of the Chicago underworld.

Luca stood perfectly still, his broad shoulders rising and falling with heavy, deeply controlled breathing. He pressed the phone tight against his ear, his eyes scanning the streets below like a hawk searching for prey in the darkness.

"Marcus..." Luca said, his voice dropping into an ice-cold, terrifyingly calm cadence that always preceded immense violence. "Clara just left my penthouse. Find her. Bring her back alive. If anyone gets in your way, put them in the ground."

There was a fraction of a second of silence on the other end of the line. It was a tiny pause, but in their world, any hesitation meant something had already gone horribly wrong.

"Luca..." Marcus said, his voice suddenly incredibly tense and strained through the phone speaker. "Vincent already knows she left."

Luca froze completely. The muscles in his neck strained as his jaw locked so tight his teeth ground together.

"Explain," Luca commanded softly, the deadly silence in his voice echoing in the empty room.

"Our lobby cameras just got cut," Marcus reported rapidly. "I have visual on two black SUVs pulling up to the south exit. Vincent's top enforcers are already inside the building. They aren't coming up to the penthouse, Luca. They are sweeping the ground floor. They are boxing her in."

The trap went deeper than he had ever imagined. Vincent hadn't just planned to kill him; he had planned to execute the girl the moment she walked out of the building to tie up the loose ends.

👉 Clara was walking completely barefoot into a lethal ambush, and Luca had exactly two minutes to stop a massacre.
