Chapter 6 - The Maid's Discovery

Dante didn't flinch at the threat. He looked at Isabella with the cold, calculating patience of an executioner watching a condemned prisoner dig their own grave.

"Is that why you're kicking them out, Isabella?" Dante asked quietly. "Because she's a nuisance?"

Before Isabella could answer, Anna stood up from the floor. She let go of the battered suitcase. Her silent weeping completely stopped. The trauma of seeing her daughter struck had awakened a fearless courage she hadn't felt since her husband was killed.

"She isn't kicking us out because of a cookie, Dante," Anna said, her voice steady and echoing clearly across the foyer.

Isabella whipped her head around, her eyes widening in sheer, unadulterated panic. "Shut your mouth, you lying rat!"

Anna reached into the deep pocket of her faded housekeeper apron. "I was cleaning the master suite this afternoon. I was emptying the trash bins near her vanity. And I found something shoved deep inside the lining of her designer handbag."

Anna pulled her hand out of her pocket. Resting in her palm was a sleek, encrypted black burner phone.
