Chapter 3 - The Stolen Glory

What the arrogant, incompetent Vice President failed to comprehend was the true, monumental value of the project Daniel had been quietly developing for the past three years.

It was code-named Meridian.

Meridian wasn't just a simple software update or a basic firewall patch. It was a revolutionary, self-learning artificial intelligence infrastructure designed to predict and neutralize global cyber threats before they even materialized.

It was the absolute crown jewel of Westbridge Technologies, a multi-million-dollar breakthrough that was poised to completely disrupt the international tech industry.

Gregory had aggressively slapped his own name on the executive summary reports, presenting Meridian to the corporate board of directors as his own brilliant, visionary creation.

He assumed the software was entirely finished and ready for mass deployment, figuring he could fire the quiet, introverted engineer and absorb Daniel's massive retention bonus for himself.

But Gregory didn't understand the actual code. He didn't understand the complex, quantum-routing algorithms that held the entire infrastructure together.

All of the encryption keys, the foundational logic gates, and the critical fail-safes weren't stored on the company's heavily monitored cloud servers.

They were meticulously, carefully handwritten inside the battered, worn black leather notebook currently resting inside Daniel Carter's cheap cardboard box.

The notebook was the physical manifestation of Daniel's absolute genius.

Without Daniel to decipher the handwritten architecture, the Meridian project was nothing more than a hollow, useless shell of broken code. It would inevitably crash within hours of deployment, taking the entire company's network down with it.

As Daniel stood quietly in the polished hallway by the elevators, holding his family photo and the black notebook, he knew exactly what he possessed.

He wasn't a desperate, broken man begging for his corporate job back.
