Chapter 4 - The Chairman's Horror

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, paralyzing tension gripped the polished corporate hallway.

The heavy elevator doors quietly slid open behind Daniel, revealing the empty, metallic car waiting to take him down to the lobby.

But Daniel did not step inside. He stood his ground, gripping the cardboard box tightly against his chest.

Jonathan Pierce, the sophisticated senior investor from Northstar Capital, completely ignored the open elevator. His sharp, observant eyes remained entirely locked onto the worn black notebook sitting in Daniel's box.

Northstar Capital wasn't at Westbridge Technologies to make a minor financial contribution.

They were preparing to finalize a massive, eight-hundred-million-dollar acquisition deal based entirely on the flawless execution of the Meridian project.

Jonathan was a ruthless, brilliant investor who did his homework; he knew exactly who truly built the technology.

“You fired the lead architect of Meridian?” Jonathan asked, his voice dropping into a chilling, absolute frequency as he slowly turned his head to look at the Chairman.

Martin Hayes felt the blood violently drain from his weathered face. His tailored dark suit suddenly felt like a suffocating straightjacket.

The Chairman had completely trusted his Vice President’s reports. He had no idea Daniel was the true mastermind behind the company's only valuable asset.

The catastrophic magnitude of the situation hit Martin with the sheer, crushing force of a freight train.

If Daniel walked into that elevator and left the building, the eight-hundred-million-dollar deal would instantly evaporate, plunging Westbridge Technologies into absolute, unrecoverable bankruptcy.

“I did not approve this,” Martin stated firmly, his authoritative voice echoing with a terrifying, raw desperation.

He turned toward the frightened HR staff and executives standing frozen in the corridor.

“Lock down the elevators! Nobody moves! I want Gregory Vance in this hallway right now, or I will fire every single person on this executive floor!”

👉 A smug, highly recognizable voice echoed down the corridor, entirely blind to the financial slaughter awaiting him.
