Chapter 7 - The Billion-Dollar Ultimatum

The absolute, crushing reality of the catastrophic betrayal completely paralyzed the Chairman.
Martin Hayes stared at his Vice President with a dark, demonic fury that promised nothing but total destruction.
Gregory physically staggered backward, his hands shaking violently. He spilled his crystal cup of sparkling water all over his expensive leather shoes.
“Martin, please, it’s a simple misunderstanding!” Gregory wept frantically, completely abandoning his arrogant executive persona.
“Carter is just a low-level programmer! He doesn't have the vision to lead this department! I can hire ten coders to replace him by tomorrow morning!”
Jonathan Pierce didn't even look at the pathetic, begging man.
The sophisticated investor calmly popped the golden latches on his expensive leather briefcase. The metallic click echoed through the silent hallway like a judge’s gavel.
“Northstar Capital is officially withdrawing our eight-hundred-million-dollar acquisition offer,” Jonathan announced flawlessly, his voice entirely devoid of human mercy.
“The intellectual property we were purchasing is entirely contained inside that black notebook, and inside Daniel Carter's head. Without him, your company is completely worthless to my firm.”
The collective gasp from the surrounding executives was deafening.
Westbridge Technologies had desperately banked their entire financial future on this single acquisition. If Jonathan walked out of that hallway with his briefcase, the company would default on their massive venture loans within forty-eight hours.
They would be completely bankrupt.
Gregory’s face turned violently pale. He had just single-handedly destroyed the biggest corporate deal in the history of the company just to stroke his own toxic ego.
“Jonathan, wait!” Martin pleaded, his authoritative voice cracking with raw, unadulterated panic as he desperately tried to salvage his crumbling empire.
“We can fix this! The deal is still alive! Please, give me sixty seconds to rectify this situation!”
