Chapter 6 - The Authority Steps Forward

Medium close-up: Nathan stepped forward.

His expensive leather shoes clicked sharply against the cold concrete floor, breaking the suffocating silence of the dimly lit utility room. The shadows fell away from his tall, imposing frame, completely revealing the dark suit, the unbuttoned black shirt, and the intense, terrifyingly sharp expression of the estate's owner.

Annie gasped in sheer, unadulterated horror.

She dropped the rusted screwdriver, the metal tool clattering loudly against the concrete. She frantically tried to pull the hem of her black-and-white maid skirt down over her broken prosthetic leg, scrambling backward against the metal shelves in absolute, blinding panic.

She had been caught. The ruthless billionaire CEO had caught her hiding in the utility room, and he had seen her broken leg. She was completely, entirely certain that he was going to fire her on the spot, throw her out of the estate, and ruin her life.

"Mr. Graves! I'm so sorry!" Annie stammered wildly, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. "I was just... I just needed to adjust my uniform! I'm going right back to the dining room! Please, don't fire me, I'm a hard worker, I promise I can finish my shift—"

Nathan didn't yell. He didn't look at her with disgust.

He slowly crouched down, dropping completely to one knee on the dirty utility room floor, bringing himself down to her eye level. The terrifying, intimidating aura of the ruthless corporate tycoon melted away, revealing a quiet, intense, and profoundly protective authority.

He didn't look at her broken leg. He looked directly into her terrified, exhausted eyes.
