Chapter 7 - CLARA TELLS THE WHOLE TRUTH

Clara spent six days in a private hospital.

The bruises were older than anyone knew.

Fractured ribs.

A healing wrist injury.

Concussion symptoms.

Malnutrition.

Dr. Emily Carter documented everything.

Eleanor stayed nearby but did not enter without permission.

On the third day, Clara asked for her.

Eleanor sat beside the bed.

“I’m sorry,” Eleanor said.

Clara looked toward the window.

“For hiding the company?”

“For not seeing you.”

“You saw some of it.”

“I accepted your answers.”

“I wanted you to.”

The sentence mattered.

Clara had feared what Eleanor’s power would do.

“You would have destroyed them,” she said.

“Yes.”

“And then everyone would say I survived because my billionaire mother saved me.”

Eleanor did not defend herself.

Clara continued.

“I needed evidence that belonged to me.”

The locked box.

Hannah’s footage.

The documents.

Her strategy.

Eleanor finally understood.

Clara did not want to exchange one controlling family for another powerful protector.

She wanted autonomy.

“Then what do you want now?” Eleanor asked.

“Help me finish it.”

That became the beginning of repair.
