Chapter 5 - The Velvet Box

Before Vanessa could take a single step toward the boy, Damian stood up with blinding, terrifying speed.
He grabbed her by the throat of her red evening gown, violently slamming her backward into a massive marble pillar. The crystal chandelier above them rattled from the sheer, kinetic force of the impact.
"Don't you ever raise your voice at my son," Damian whispered, his dark eyes pitch black, completely devoid of any human mercy.
He didn't let her go. He looked at his Head of Security, who was standing nearby.
"Search her," Damian ordered coldly. "Right now."
"You can't do this! I know my rights!" Vanessa wailed hysterically as a female security officer stepped forward.
The officer aggressively snatched a small, velvet designer clutch from Vanessa’s hands. She unzipped it, dumping the contents directly onto the pristine white tablecloth of the nearest dining table.
Lipstick, a compact mirror, a credit card, and a tiny, clear plastic zip-lock bag tumbled out.
The plastic bag was empty, but the inside was coated in fine, brown, crushed nut dust.
The silence in the grand dining room was absolute, deafening, and completely terrifying.
Vanessa hadn't just made a mistake. She had intentionally smuggled a lethal allergen into a highly secure estate, meticulously crushed it, and manually planted it into a six-year-old child's dessert. She wanted Ethan dead so she wouldn't have to share Damian's massive billionaire empire with a stepson.
