Chapter 6 - The Teddy Bear Witness

"She's right, sir," the Head of Security muttered nervously, stepping closer to Damian. "The main kitchen camera system went offline for a scheduled software update an hour ago. We don't have footage of her tampering with the dessert cart."
Vanessa let out a breathless, manic laugh of pure relief. "You see?! You have no proof! You can't do anything to me, Damian!"
Clara, still standing firmly near Ethan’s chair, took a deep breath. She wasn't going to let this monster escape justice.
"Mr. Vance," Clara spoke up, her voice ringing with incredible bravery. "She's right. The main cameras were offline."
Clara reached under Ethan’s chair and pulled out his favorite toy—a small, brown stuffed teddy bear wearing a tiny pilot's jacket.
"But three days ago, I noticed Vanessa going through your private office desk," Clara explained, looking directly at the horrified woman in red. "I knew she was up to something, but I didn't have proof. So I bought a high-definition nanny cam and hid it inside the button on Ethan's bear. Ethan left the bear on the kitchen counter when he went to get his water."
Vanessa physically staggered, her knees violently buckling beneath her red dress.
Clara pulled her smartphone from her apron pocket. "The camera syncs directly to my cloud drive. I have the entire video, sir."
Clara tapped the screen once and handed the glowing phone directly to Damian.
Damian looked down at the screen. The cinematic tension peaked as he watched the high-definition footage. It showed Vanessa, clear as day, pulling the plastic bag from her cleavage, crushing the pecan with a spoon, and carefully burying the lethal shards deep inside the chocolate frosting of Ethan's specific slice.
