Chapter 10 - Justice Served

Madison took the check with trembling hands. She looked down at the paper and gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. It was a check for two million dollars.
"Sir, I can't take this!" Madison cried, tears of shock pouring down her face. "It's too much!"
"It’s not enough," Mr. Moretti corrected her gently. "That money is from Victoria’s seized trust fund. It belongs to the person who brought her down. Use it to protect your family. Put your little brother through college. Buy a house."
Madison couldn't speak. She just broke down into heavy, beautiful sobs of absolute gratitude, nodding her head as the crushing weight of her lifelong poverty was instantly erased.
"And Madison," Mr. Moretti added, a faint, genuine smile touching his lips for the first time in years. "You are no longer a maid. Tomorrow morning, you are officially the new Estate Manager. Nobody will ever raise a hand to you in this house again."
Within six months, the trial was over. Faced with the undeniable physical evidence from the buried box and Madison’s brave testimony, Victoria pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty. She was sentenced to life in a maximum-security federal prison without the possibility of parole, completely abandoned by high society and left to rot in a concrete cell.
The Moretti estate transformed. With Victoria gone and Madison running the household, the dark, oppressive atmosphere completely lifted.
Mr. Moretti finally found peace. At the next formal dinner party, the grand dining room was filled with genuine laughter, good friends, and warmth.

And at the head of the table, right next to Mr. Moretti, the empty wooden chair was finally gone. He didn't need to hold onto a ghost anymore, because the woman he loved had finally been avenged.
Do you think a life sentence was enough justice for Victoria, or did the cruel sister deserve much worse for what she did?
