Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

The entire dining room froze. The wealthy guests exchanged confused, nervous glances.

Victoria’s fake smile completely melted off her face. A flicker of genuine panic crossed her eyes, but she quickly masked it with arrogant annoyance. "Leo, what on earth are you talking about? Are you drunk?"

Mr. Moretti didn't raise his voice. He just stared at her with dead, empty eyes.

"I'm talking about the old greenhouse, Victoria," he said slowly, making sure every single person at the table heard him. "I'm talking about the rose bushes. And the heavy metal box you forced my maid to bury this afternoon."

All the color instantly drained from Victoria’s face. She looked like a ghost. Her hands began to shake so violently that her coffee cup rattled loudly against its saucer.

"I... I have no idea what you mean," Victoria stammered, her voice suddenly high-pitched and breathless. "Leo, this is insane! That maid is lying to you! She's trying to extort us!"

"She didn't ask for a dime," Mr. Moretti countered smoothly. "She just showed me the bruises on her throat. The bruises you left when you realized she saw the forged pharmacy receipts."

Guests began whispering frantically, some covering their mouths in horror as the terrifying implications settled over the room.

"You murdered your own sister," Mr. Moretti stated, his voice a lethal, echoing rumble. "You poisoned her heart medication so you could play lady of the manor and drain her trust fund."

Victoria abruptly stood up, her red chair scraping loudly against the floor. "You're crazy! I loved her! I would never hurt her! Where is your proof?!"

"My security team is currently digging it up," Mr. Moretti replied casually, checking his expensive watch. "And the Chief of Police will be here in exactly two minutes to collect it."
