Chapter 3 - The Lethal Stare

Dante entirely ignored Sophia's hysterical screaming.
An extreme close-up captured his face. His dark, piercing eyes locked onto his fiancée with a dangerous, intense scrutiny. He didn't yell. He didn't argue. The terrifying, quiet executioner within him had officially awakened.
He knew exactly who I was. I wasn't just a random maid. I was the daughter of his former head of security, a man who had died protecting Dante five years ago. Dante had given me this job to keep me safe and off the streets, but he didn't know I had inherited my father's sharp, paranoid instincts.
"Give me your phone, Sophia," Dante ordered, his voice dropping into a low, threatening tone that sent a violent shiver through the entire room.
"Dante, please!" Sophia panicked, clutching her small silver designer clutch tightly to her chest. "She's a crazy peasant! Why are you listening to her?! I'm your future wife!"
"The phone," Dante repeated smoothly, extending his tattooed hand.
Driven by pure, animalistic desperation, Sophia turned and tried to sprint toward the grand glass exit doors, her high heels slipping slightly on the black glossy floor.
She didn't make it three steps.
Two of Dante’s massive, heavily armed syndicate bodyguards stepped out from the shadows of the semi-circle of guests, completely blocking her path. They grabbed her arms, violently hauling her backward, completely ignoring her pathetic, high-society protests.
