Chapter 23 - the charity ambush
The following weekend, Sophie hosted a massive charity gala at a prestigious downtown museum. The luxurious venue was filled with elite investors, celebrities, and global politicians. Enormous crystal chandeliers cast a warm, golden glow over the elegant crowd. Sophie stood at the podium, radiating absolute authority in a tailored navy evening gown.
But Marcello had orchestrated a flawless, lethal infiltration. Disguised as high-end catering staff, a dozen of his heavily armed mercenaries had successfully bypassed the outer security grid. They planned to take the entire ballroom hostage, execute the guards, and force Sophie to sign over her corporate holdings on live international television.
As the mercenaries reached into their jackets to draw their suppressed weapons, Sophie's terrifyingly observant eyes scanned the room. She noticed their heavy, unnatural footsteps and their shifting, panicked micro-expressions.
