Chapter 9 - The Father's Promise

The cinematic realism of the profoundly emotional moment paralyzed the terrifying mafia boss.
Dante looked at his daughter. The agonizing grief he had carried for six years was entirely replaced by a fierce, undeniable, and completely unconditional love.
He slowly stood up and walked over to where Sophie was sitting. He crouched down beside her. She looked up at him, her bright blue eyes wide with curiosity, entirely fearless.
"I'm your dad," Dante said quietly, his voice incredibly gentle.
Sophie blinked, looking at the massive, terrifying man in the mauve suit. Without a single microsecond of hesitation or fear, the five-year-old threw her small arms around Dante’s neck, hugging him tightly.
"Does this mean I get to keep the dog?" Sophie asked innocently.
Dante physically gasped. Tears of pure, unadulterated joy instantly flooded his dark eyes. He wrapped his strong arms around her, holding her with a fierce, unbreakable protection, laughing a deep, genuine laugh for the first time in six years.
"You can have absolutely anything you want, Sophie," Dante promised, kissing the side of her curly blonde head.
