Chapter 5 - The Dance Teacher's Secret

Gabriel took one heavy step toward the shattered glass doors.
"Stop," I commanded.
It wasn't a terrified, trembling whisper. It was a cold, absolute order that made the mafia boss freeze in his tracks.
Gabriel turned around, his dark eyes widening in sheer confusion. I slowly stood up from the floor, brushing the shattered glass off my leggings. I didn't look like a terrified victim anymore. I looked entirely, completely in control.
"If you walk out there, Marcus will kill you, and then he will kill us anyway to eliminate the witnesses," I stated smoothly.
"Claire, stay down," Gabriel growled, his protective instincts surging. "You don't understand this world."
"I understand perfectly, Mr. Moretti," I replied.
I walked over to the sound system panel on the wall. It had been completely shredded by the bullets. But I didn't reach for the volume dial. I reached behind the heavy wooden cabinet, my fingers finding a hidden, biometric scanner.
I pressed my thumb against the glass.
The wall behind the shattered mirrors let out a heavy, metallic clunk.
Gabriel’s security chief raised his weapon as an entire section of the wall slid open, revealing a massive, heavily fortified armory filled with military-grade tactical gear, encrypted servers, and a secure escape tunnel.
Gabriel stared at the hidden vault, his jaw physically dropping. "What... what is this?"

"You're not the only one in Chicago who hides behind a boring day job, Gabriel," I smiled coldly.
👉 Gabriel realized his innocent dance instructor was a phantom, and I was about to execute a flawless, tactical escape.
