Chapter 6 - The Traitor Revealed

Alessandro’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "Give me a name, Sophia."
"Your underboss," Sophia cried, tears streaming down her face. "Victor."
Alessandro’s chest stopped moving. Victor was his right-hand man. The man who had been running the syndicate’s daily operations ever since Alessandro was confined to the wheelchair.
"Victor intercepted Mateo at the river," Sophia continued, the horrific memory breaking her heart all over again. "Mateo called me from the car. He told me Victor had set him up. Mateo drove his car into the river to distract them so I could escape into the woods. I've been hiding ever since."
Sophia wiped her face, her eyes burning with grief. "I only took this maid job two weeks ago because my daughter was starving, and I knew Victor never came to your private estate. I just needed enough money to leave the city."
Alessandro sat perfectly still in his black wheelchair. The puzzle pieces he had been missing for four years violently snapped together. His brother hadn't been killed by a rival cartel. He had been murdered by the man eating at Alessandro's dinner table.
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the office swung open.
"Boss, the meeting is ready," a smooth, arrogant voice announced.
