Chapter 7 - The Desperate Move

Victor stopped dead in his tracks.

His arrogant smirk completely vanished. His eyes locked onto Sophia standing in her modest gray maid uniform. Then, his gaze dropped to the little blonde girl hiding behind her legs.

For a fraction of a second, Victor’s realistic micro-expressions betrayed pure, unadulterated panic. But he quickly masked it with cold calculation. His hand slowly moved toward the inside of his suit jacket, hovering near his concealed weapon.

"Sophia," Victor said smoothly, though his voice lacked its usual confidence. "I didn't realize we hired you. You should be in the kitchen."

Alessandro didn't miss a single detail. He saw Victor’s hand move. He saw the genuine, paralyzing terror in Sophia’s eyes.

"She isn't a maid anymore, Victor," Alessandro stated calmly, not breaking eye contact with his underboss.

"Oh?" Victor forced a tight laugh, stepping further into the office. His four guards spread out, their hands resting on their holsters. "And what is she, Boss? Because she looks like an intruder bothering you in your private office."

"She is family," Alessandro replied, his voice dropping to a terrifying, lethal rumble. "And she was just telling me a very interesting story about the night my brother died at the river."

Victor’s face turned the color of ash. He realized instantly that his four-year secret was completely exposed. There was no talking his way out of this.
