Chapter 7 - The Dramatic Version

Years later, people still told the dramatic version.
The police academy restroom.
The buzzing fluorescent lights.
Amara washing sweat from her hands.
Draven entering behind her.
The door slamming shut.
The lock clicking.
Why did you lock the door?
His palm hitting the mirror.
His hand grabbing her arm.
You need to learn your place.
Amara tearing free.
His open hand swinging toward her face.
Her wrist catch.
The compact punch.
The second lunge.
The planted foot.
The front kick.
Draven crashing into the locked door and dropping to one knee.
The body-camera indicator blinking beneath her collar.
His rage turning to panic.
Go ahead, Sergeant.
May you like
It sounded like defiance.
