But Amara knew the deeper victory was quieter.
It was not the punch.
It was not the kick.
It was not even Draven seeing the camera.
It was Amara trusting her own fear before anyone else validated it.
It was Maya and Tasha being believed after being dismissed.
It was Reeves knocking instead of walking away.
It was the academy finally admitting that discipline without accountability becomes permission for predators.
And it was Amara, years later, standing in a training room as a field officer, facing a new class of recruits.
She held up a small body camera.
Not as a threat.
As a promise.
“This does not make you brave,” she said. “It makes the record harder to bury.”
A young recruit in the front row raised her hand.
“What if the person abusing power is the person we’re supposed to report to?”
Amara looked at her.
Not softly.
Honestly.
“Then you build a record, find the next safe channel, and do not confuse rank with truth.”
The room went still.
Amara clipped the camera to her uniform.
“Training should make you stronger,” she said. “It should never require you to survive the trainer.”
Outside, academy bells rang for the next drill.
Inside, every recruit checked the exits.
Not from fear.
