Chapter 5 - The Letter

Back in the present, the luxury penthouse was suffocatingly quiet.

Dante’s massive, tattooed chest heaved as he dropped the smartphone onto the mattress. His hands, which had ruthlessly dismantled rival bosses with zero hesitation, were visibly trembling as he reached for the handwritten letter resting next to the gun.

He unfolded the crisp white paper.

Dante, I heard you and Valentina in the study. You chose your violent empire over the vow you made to me. You called me irrelevant. So, I took the flash drive. Your empire belongs to me now. I have forwarded a dead-man's switch to the FBI. If your men track me, the ledger goes public.

Dante stopped breathing. His brilliant, quiet wife had completely checkmated the entire Chicago syndicate in a single afternoon.

But the next paragraph completely shattered his soul.

I didn't take the ledger for money. I took it as an insurance policy to protect my child. I am six weeks pregnant, Dante. I refuse to let my baby grow up watching their father disrespect their mother. You wanted an heir, but you chose power. You will never see us again.

Dante’s knees physically gave out. The terrifying apex predator collapsed onto the edge of the bed, burying his face in his massive hands. A raw, agonizing sound of pure grief tore from his throat. He had thrown away his soulmate and his unborn child for a cartel alliance he didn't even need.

👉 Dante was drowning in absolute despair, but the woman who orchestrated his ruin was about to casually stroll into the room.
