Chapter 9 - The Reward

The chaotic, violent energy of the carriage house completely evaporated.
Dominic adjusted the cuffs of his white shirt, put his black double-breasted suit jacket back on, and walked calmly back into the grand luxury ballroom. The wealthy guests were still mingling, completely unaware that a massive cartel war had just been silently averted on the estate grounds.
Dominic bypassed the politicians and the billionaires. He walked directly toward the kitchen service doors.
He found Elena, the young maid in the grey uniform, quietly polishing a tray of champagne glasses. She looked up, her brown eyes widening slightly as the terrifying mafia boss approached her.
"It's handled," Dominic said softly, his voice dropping the lethal edge, replacing it with profound, genuine respect.
Elena let out a slow, quiet breath of immense relief. "I'm glad, sir."
"You risked your life by stepping forward tonight, Elena," Dominic stated, the absolute power of his massive wealth backing every word. "If you had been wrong, or if she had caught you, the cartel would have killed you."
"I couldn't let them destroy what you built, sir," Elena replied simply, her cinematic expression radiating pure, uncorrupted loyalty.
