Chapter 14 - JULIAN’S NEW LIFE

Two years after the yacht, Julian became director of product operations. Not CEO.

No family shortcut. Rebecca promoted him after outside review.

I learned through public announcement. Good.

Then he started dating someone. A teacher named Hannah Cole.

I heard because tabloids tried to make triangle. I ignored.

Then one day Hannah contacted me. That was surprising.

Email: I’m sorry to bother you. Julian told me enough about your history. I want to verify one thing before I move into any Richardson-owned property: is there anything financial I should know that could affect me?

I stared. Good question.

I forwarded to Maya. We responded only publicly available facts and advised independent counsel.

No personal judgment. Then Hannah thanked me.

Julian later texted: Thank you for not making this harder for her. I did not answer.

It was not about him. Then I learned Hannah refused to move into any trust-owned residence without written occupancy agreement.

Excellent. People learn through stories.

Then Julian and Hannah married later. Prenup.

Independent counsel. No proxy rights.

No secret debt. I genuinely wished them well.

That surprised me. Then I began dating a man named Grant Foster, an environmental engineer.

We met through a marina remediation project. Not rich. Not poor. Normal.

I told him I owned Northstar earlier than comfortable. Third month.

His reaction: “That explains why your calendar is terrifying.” Good.

Then he asked: “Does dating you create conflicts with my firm?” We checked.

No. That conversation was sexy now.

Transparency. Then he asked about yacht.

I told him. He said: “I promise not to own one.”

“Good.” Then later he rented a sailboat for weekend.

I stared. He said: “Too soon?” “No.” We went.

At one point he stood near rail behind me. My body tensed.

May you like

He noticed. Stepped back. No speech. Choice.

Trust rebuilt in inches.
