Chapter 3 - The Phone Call

Gloria didn't argue. She didn't scream or curse at the monster she had raised.
A medium shot captured her turning her back on Trevor with quiet, undeniable dignity. She walked slowly but purposefully out of the grand living room, her pearl necklace catching the bright daylight. Trevor watched her leave, entirely confident that he had successfully terrified her into permanent submission.
Gloria walked straight through the massive oak front doors, stepping outside into the cold, crisp afternoon air.
A tight close-up captured her reaching into the pocket of her blue blazer. She pulled out her cell phone. She didn't dial the police. She dialed a private, highly encrypted number.
The phone rang twice before a deep, professional voice answered. "Martin here."
"Martin, it's Gloria," she said, her voice a firm, lethal frequency. "List the house for sale. Today. I don't care about the market value. Sell it to the holding company we discussed."
"Gloria, are you sure?" her attorney asked, sensing the absolute finality in her tone. "Trevor and Kristen live there."
"They don't live anywhere," Gloria stated coldly, wiping another drop of blood from her lip. "And Martin... trigger the debt clauses on his corporate accounts. All of them. Immediately."
She ended the call, slipping the phone back into her pocket.
To understand the absolute, unhinged arrogance of Trevor's behavior, one had to look at the massive, unspoken lie of his entire life. Trevor paraded around the city as a self-made billionaire, throwing lavish parties and investing millions in reckless, failing tech startups to impress his snobby wife, Kristen.
