Chapter 7 - The Financial Bloodbath

Trevor pulled his phone out, his hands trembling so badly he almost dropped it. It was his corporate CFO calling.
"Listen to me, I'm handling a security issue at the house—" Trevor started to yell into the receiver.
"Trevor, it's gone!" the CFO screamed on the other end of the line in sheer, apocalyptic panic. "Everything is gone!"
Trevor froze. "What are you talking about?"
"The corporate credit lines!" the CFO wailed hysterically. "The bank just called all the loans! The parent company triggered the debt clauses! They froze our operating accounts, they seized the payroll, and they locked the entire executive team out of the building! We are completely bankrupt, Trevor! We are millions of dollars in debt!"
The phone slipped from Trevor’s sweating hand, clattering loudly against the dark wood coffee table.
His knees buckled. He physically staggered backward, the absolute, crushing reality of his situation violently hitting him. His mother hadn't just sold the house. She had systematically, ruthlessly dismantled his entire fake billionaire universe in less than five hours.
"Trevor? What's happening?!" Kristen shrieked, running over to him in her designer dress. "Tell them to leave!"
Trevor couldn't speak. He stared at his wife, completely stripped of his power, his pride, and his fake wealth.
