Chapter 5 - The Hidden Clue

"Where is she?" Vincent demanded, his voice a lethal, terrifying rumble that shook the grand office.

"I don't know!" Grace sobbed on the floor. "Isabella handled the men! I just unlocked the back gate!"

Vincent violently shoved Isabella’s wrist away, tossing her backward. She stumbled in her expensive blue floral dress, crashing awkwardly into a leather armchair. She was hyperventilating, realizing her multi-million-dollar plan had just completely imploded.

Vincent didn't scream. He didn't waste time torturing his treacherous fiancée. He leaned over the mahogany desk and pressed the play button on the voicemail again.

"Vince... don't say a word."

He listened past Clara’s desperate, broken whisper. He closed his eyes, filtering out the static. In the deep background of the audio file, there was a highly specific, rhythmic sound.

Clang. Clang. Clang.

It was the heavy, distinct sound of a shipping yard buoy bell.

Vincent’s dark eyes snapped open. He owned massive commercial properties all over the state, but there was only one place with that specific sound. It was the abandoned industrial shipping docks on the South Side—a property that Isabella’s family technically managed.

Isabella saw the exact moment of realization hit his face.

"Vince, please!" Isabella cried out, crawling toward the desk. "She was going to leave you! I did it for us! I love you!"
