Chapter 6 - The Feast of the Vultures

The news spread through the estate like wildfire. The great Massimo Rinaldi was stepping down.
Dean wasted no time. He immediately invited the capos of the Rinaldi family and several corrupt politicians to the mansion for a grand dinner to witness the signing. He was eager to officially crown himself the new king of the East Coast.
Down in the kitchen, Carla was working frantically to prepare the massive feast. Camille marched in, holding a glass of wine, looking at the exhausted maid with pure disgust.
"Make sure the silver is spotless," Camille sneered. "And Carla? Once Dean has the signature tonight, you and your little rat are out on the street. I want you gone by midnight."
Carla bit her lip, holding back tears. She looked at little Nina, who was sitting quietly in the corner, clutching her coloring book.
"Yes, ma'am," Carla whispered. She didn't know Massimo's plan. She only knew she was losing everything.
Upstairs, Massimo was completely alone.
He gripped the armrests of his wheelchair. Sweat poured down his face. For two days, his body had been flushing out the neurotoxin. The agonizing pins-and-needles sensation in his legs was almost unbearable, but to a man who had felt nothing for six months, it was the greatest feeling in the world.
He pushed himself up.
His legs violently shook. He collapsed back into the chair, gasping for air.
Get up, his mind screamed. Get up.
He tried again. His custom leather shoes planted firmly on the hardwood floor. His knees locked. The muscles, weakened but alive, strained with terrifying intensity.
Massimo stood.

He took one staggering step. Then another. He walked to his private safe, dialed the combination, and pulled out his heavy, loaded .45 caliber pistol.
