Chapter 6 - The Dead Man's Ring

Rosa slipped out of the office, making sure the heavy door locked securely behind her. She walked briskly across the restaurant floor, her heart pounding against her ribs.

She approached Dominic’s table, keeping her head down. Marcus was mid-sentence, laughing arrogantly about a recent real estate acquisition, completely unaware of what was about to happen.

Rosa leaned over to clear Dominic’s empty plate. As she did, she discreetly slid the blood-stained handkerchief directly into Dominic’s hand.

Dominic’s fingers closed around the cloth. He felt the heavy metal of the signet ring.

Under the cover of the table, Dominic unrolled the handkerchief. He looked down. His breath hitched.

He stared at the gold signet ring. It bore the intricate crest of his own syndicate. It was the exact ring he had personally given to Arthur Carter ten years ago. A ring that was supposed to have burned in the tragic house fire that claimed Arthur's life.

Along with the ring was the black USB drive. The puzzle pieces violently snapped together in Dominic’s brilliant mind.

Arthur hadn't died in an accident. Marcus had murdered him, staged the explosion, and stolen Arthur’s fortune, keeping the children locked away like animals to cover his tracks.

Dominic’s gray-blue eyes slowly rose from his lap. He looked across the table at Marcus, who was sipping an expensive glass of red wine, smiling as if he owned the world.

Dominic didn't scream. He didn't flip the table. He simply took a slow, deep breath, reigning in a monstrous, lethal fury that was about to be unleashed.

He looked up at his head of security.
