Chapter 13 - Bianca Finally Wrote The Truth

Almost a year after leaving, Bianca sent another letter.

Short.

No excuses.

Adrian read it twice.

Milo,

I locked you in a closet because your crying and grief made me angry. I also shoved you into that closet the last time. I told myself I was disciplining you, but I was punishing you for emotions you had every right to have.

Adrian continued.

I was jealous of the love you still had for your mother. That jealousy was mine to manage, not yours.

Then:

You did nothing to deserve being frightened. You do not owe me forgiveness or another relationship with me. I am sorry.

Adrian showed the letter to Milo’s therapist first.

Then Milo.

He read it slowly.

When he finished, he asked:

“Is this a real apology?”

Adrian said:

“I think it’s closer.”

Milo thought.

“Do I have to answer?”

“No.”

“Can I keep it?”

“Yes.”

“Can I still not see her?”

“Yes.”

He folded the letter and placed it inside the drawer beside his bed.

That was the end of the conversation.

No reunion.

No hug.

No moral lesson forced onto him.

An apology can repair the truth without restoring access.

Bianca finally understood that.

May you like

More importantly, Milo did too.
